I would love to! [ a beat. ] Oh, ah. For the food, too, thank you very much, that is very kind of you to offer, but - I could most certainly talk about martial arts all day! Are you trained it in as well, Miss Susato?
[ he's watching her curiously... someone doesn't get to do much cooking. ]
That's wonderful. [ enthusiastic! spoken with complete and utter passion: ] It's not so much about your skill level - rather the fact that you are learning and doing, that's what matters, isn't it? And if you enjoy it, then that's the best! What sort of techniques? Have you gotten to utilize them?
[It's fairly basic since they aren't working with any fancy ingredients, but she seems competent enough.]
My father has always felt it important to study such things. Both as a matter of safety and the pursuit of discipline and confidence. I have developed a few techniques of my own - I would be happy to show you, if you wish. They are similar in nature to the principles of judo.
It has helped me a great deal while I have been traveling, particularly given the dangers on the streets of London. So I quite agree with father on that.
[ that's okay! it's even just the act of the cooking that is interesting. this food looks edible which is a marked step up from anything he's eaten recently. ]
Your father is very wise. It's true - good for the mind, and good for the body alike.
[ he clasps his hands together, nodding. ] I think I would like that very much! Perhaps we can teach each other - I've always liked to learn new techniques, and it has been some time since I've been able to do so.
[Very seriously, she puts the pot back on the stove, checks that it is not boiling over, wipes off her skirt with a hand, sets her ladle down, and then grabs him by the waist to judo toss him to the ground.]
Oh - excellent, what an excellent technique! Using your opponents weight against them is a tried and tested technique, and you pull it off beautifully! Very well done, Miss Susato!!
It is praise well earned! I think it's very important to recognize where hard work and practice and talent have come to fruition.
[ but he will get up now, beaming right back at susato as he brushes himself off. martial arts are the coolest... ] And a move very well named, as well. The Susato Takedown! Haha.
... [ there's a beat, where he thinks is this a good idea? and then decides, yes, absolutely, susato says to give his best, so he will not hesitate!! ]
Alright! Brace yourself, then! [ xie lian's martial arts style is very graceful, not that susato will get much time to see it; he moves almost like a flash to yeet her to the ground. the entire process takes barely half a second. we will have matching mystery bruises for trial this week.
thankfully his strength is very nerfed - though, the minute he does, he looks a little worried for her reaction. are you okay.... ]
[Bracing herself! She will attempt to try and avoid the move, but he's too fast, and she's yeeted to the ground. When he looks at her reaction, she's getting right back up and brushes herself off.]
Your technique is most impressive! How invigorating!
[ oh she got right up, too!!! xie lian smiles right back, practically exuding flowers and sparkles. this is fantastic. ]
Thank you, that is very kind! I've been training since I was very, very young - and often, I have had to learn to use very similar moves as you! Such good training is the base for all sorts of martial arts.
If you'd like, I can teach you how to do this move, as well! Though. [ a beat, he glances around. ] ...maybe not in the kitchen.
[Yes I can't wait for trial when she has bruises from fighting. Anyway, she nods at that.]
I would be more than happy to teach you. What I am making now is quite simple. To boil water in order to steam vegetables. . . it is not often the most delicious way to prepare them, but it is nourishing and will kill any rot clinging to it.

Dear me, are you hungry, Mr. Xie Lian? I would be happy to share a meal with you while you tell me more about your martial techniques!

[She will get to work on putting together a meal as she talks, though, putting some vegetables on to steam.]

But yes, perhaps not in the kitchen.

anyway!! he comes over also afterwards, exhilarated, and watches susato while she's cooking, still smiling. ]
...Perhaps I could learn a little from you in this aspect, too. I've only just begun cooking for myself and a few others, recently.
