I think they do not want balance at all. They want one side to win, even if that is likely to undo the balance that they represent.
[She listens, seriously, to what he says, frowning with some concern.]
But . . . it is a bit careless. Mr. Hoover told me he was a Temporal. He wasn't given any information on who might be on the other side - he simply had to guess, and he guessed wrong.
Yes - he told me the same. That he would be conned into making such a decision with honey-sweet promises, and then, for that to happen...
[ he frowns, too, expression matching. ]
...Supposedly, the same thing happened last week - in terms of teams. At least, according to someone else - I cannot confirm or deny what team Qi Rong was on, and I doubt he would have ever even told me.
I truly don't understand. Is it that they are given the choice so that they could still fail - so this creature could renege on a deal it gave?
That's what I told the person who told me, as well. [ he laughs a little. ] I told them they ought not trust a word out of Qi Rong's mouth - that any information given should be considered the opposite.
[ lyin ass stinky man
anyway ] ...but, yes. I thought that it was just designed for the person who had to agree to "lose". If Bertolt was to be rewarded for this action by that creature with the promises it gave, he would have had to kill a Celestial and... I suppose not get caught. There is a slim margin of achieving what was asked - and if these Angels are the same as the creatures of my realm, then it would only continue to ask for more even if he had succeeded.
[ xie lian sighs, reaching up to rub his temples. ] I suppose we aren't supposed to share our teams much with each other for this sort of reason.
Yes. It makes a bit of sense now - there is an advantage, if you are aware who is on what team. Though to some degree. . . I have suspicions based on the Watchers people mention speaking to most often. So it is not foolproof.
[She folds her hands together.]
I think that caution is wise, but. . . I do feel as though I can trust you, and would be willing to share my team with you if it was helpful in some regard. I have shared so far with Mr. Sholmes and Lord van Zieks, but only with those two.
[ it's like hard not to be glad, actually?? he scratches his cheek! san lang makes a pleased huffing noise up at ryutaro, too. ] For as much as I want us all to work together, to be able to solve this - it is a bit reassuring to hear we are on the same team. Perhaps that's silly....
I think I will be trying my best to get to know the Temporals, next week. I've only spoken with two of them in private, so I hope to change that, soon.

I don't understand, either. After all, all that has happened is that the Temporal team was weakened.

I was going to ask you the same. [ friendship!!! ] I am aligned with the Celestials.
[ this is arguably the least surprising thing in the entire world i'm sure ]

I am aligned with them as well.
